Theology Is Not The Goal

Theology is a means to an end. That end is an ever increasing clarity and grasping of God himself. When the end is anything but this, we will become restless, anxious, combative, angry, proud, and/or generally dissatisfied.

Sinner?

For a long time in my life I was exposed to a thread of teaching in the church that intensely discourages believers from acknowledging their sinful state. The thinking goes like this: 1) Jesus died on a cross for me. 2) Therefore I am a new creation. 3) The Bible says I am the righteousness of God. 4) To call myself a sinner is to disrespect all that Jesus did for me. Jesus call to repent and believe

In Mark 1:15 Jesus begins his ministry by proclaiming “The time is fulfilled and the kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the gospel!”. This call to repent and believe is something very important to the scriptures and to the Christian faith. Apart from this call, Christianity would be no different than other religions. Theologians will call this the "External Gospel Call" because it is something done openly to all people.
